LAST SEASON'S LOCATIONS:
Most teams (13 of 22 last year) use ACC as "Home." However, in order to use ACC as "Home," ACC requires its DCCL teams to have at least 3 current ACC members on the roster AND who play for the team regularly in the season. All ACC teams comply with this requirement.
Option: Teams can choose another "home" in any roomy location (same for all match rounds) in the Metropolitan DC region, to be used for each of the team's "home" matches, and which has ample parking for visitors. Locations must fit at least 4 boards comfortably under usual competitive chess conditions (no extraneous noise, etc.).
Teams compete in only 1 section each season.
OPEN: (1800 unofficial floor)
AMATEUR: U2000 (1500 unofficial floor)
RESERVE: U1700
This Fee Covers ALL Games Over 9 Rounds for 4-Board/Player Teams
(ie: about $2/rated game).
This is a 1-time $80 fee for each team.
This fee covers the whole team for the whole season.
There are no other a-la-carte fees (paying for each round) or other fees for individual players (except if needed for club-site membership). To Pay by cash or check, contact the DCCL Treasurer (benjamininc618@gmail.com) or Executive Director (acomparc@gmail.com) Payments can also be made in person at every Friday Meeting of the Arlington Chess Club.
The League is organized for earning Team-Chess Bragging Rights in the DC metro area.
By section, plaques are awarded to each winning team & their top 4 participating players (additional plaques are available for purchase).
Plus, plaques are awarded to the player(s) with the best individual season record in each section.
Players are given 90 minutes each for all of their moves in the game.
In addition, each are given an extra 30-seconds of increment time with each move.
Instead of a 5 or 10-second delay on each move, the DCCL uses a time control where each player gets 30-seconds of increment time on each move to cover the brief transition from making the move, hitting the clock plunger, writing the move down, and refocusing on the game.
Unlike with delay time (in which unused delay time evaporates), any unused increment time is added to the player's total remaining time.
With such a long transition time, players must continue to take chess notation throughout the game (ie there is no 5-minute period at the end of a time control or game where either/both players can stop taking notation and blitz out the rest of the game).
