To join an existing team, go to the "Contact" tab (above) and send us an email stating your interest in doing so. We'll find you a team that needs players. We usually respond within 24 hours.
Teams play in only one section - so All Players must meet the Rating Limit for their Section. Generally, players only compete for one team each season - and a player can get paired in only one game per month/round/match.
The visiting team's players use the White pieces on all odd-numbered boards (Boards 1 & 3). Games are forfeited at 8:45pm sharp (NOT 45 mins after clock is started).
Teams designate their own Captain (often the Captain is self-chosen, and asks friends and other players to play).
Captain Must Be Able To Field 4-Player-Teams Each Month.
This usually means having at least 2 Alternate Players as Back-Up, but sometimes more ... whatever it takes to field 4 players each month/round/match.
Captains manage their roster for each match, they submit results to the DCCL Executive Director for posting on the league website (or approve results posted by the opposing Captain), and they conditionally arbitrate in-game disputes with the opposing Captain (then to be confirmed, and/or if no agreement then ruled upon, by the on-location TD and/or Executive Director as back-up arbiter).
Game results are submitted each round for USCF rating. All players must be USCF members.
Teams choose their "Home Location" when registering. This is the site the team will use to host matches with other DCCL teams.
LAST SEASON'S LOCATIONS:
Most teams (13 of 20 last year) use ACC as "Home." However, in order to use ACC as "Home," ACC requires its DCCL teams to have at least 3 current ACC members on the roster AND who play for the team regularly in the season. All ACC teams comply with this requirement.
OPTION: Teams can choose another "home" in any roomy location (same for all match rounds) in the Metropolitan DC region, to be used for each of the team's "home" matches, and which has ample parking for visitors. Locations must fit at least 4 boards comfortably under usual competitive chess conditions (no extraneous noise, etc.).
